It seemed like every summer my daddy got what he called a "summer cold." I think I remember him saying they were worse that the winter ones.
I figure a cold is a cold no matter the season, it's just that we tend to stay in bed more in the winter and eat chicken soup, in the summer, we're wanting to enjoy the out of doors, so we end up being miserable longer.
The duration of a cold depends on your body's immune system which is dependent upon the foods we eat and the fluids we drink and the activities we participate in.
Here are a few tips to help you ward off the cold viruses.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water
- Keep some sort of hand sanitizer with you(preferably homemade with an Essential Oil Preventative Blend)
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and protein.
If you feel that old familiar feeling of the "summer cold" creeping around your front door so to speak, here are a few of my favorite Essential Oil remedies and THEY DO WORK!
If I start to feel a little rough, the first thing I do is fix myself a cup of "Shield & Honey" tea. That's just a spoonful of honey, 3 or 4 drops of Spark Naturals Shield Essential Oil Preventive Blend, a drop or two of Lemon if desired and fill the cup with hot water. I feel better immediately.
For Sore Throat:
For that Flu Feeling:
If you feel that rough feeling, don't wait too long, fix yourself a "flu bomb" capsule. Thanks to Rebecca and Camp Wander for the awesome original recipe that will knock this right out in no time. Her recipe is:
3 drops Shield
3 drops Melaleuca
3 drops Oregano
every 2-3 hours as needed in a capsule.
I choose to keep a bottle of equal parts of Oregano, Melaleuca and Shield and add 9 drops to a capsule every 2-3 hours. You can use either recipe in a bottle, just be sure and give it a gentle shake to mix the oils.
To soothe a sore throat and kill germs, gargle with a little water and two drops of Shield and one drop of Oregano for as long as you can. The Oregano is a hot oil and will burn, but you need to "man up" and handle it, it will make a difference. You can also swish a tablespoon or two of water with Shield and Oregano(if you can handle it) for five minutes then swallow to allow the healing properties to reach the throat. Oregano is nature's most powerful antibiotic, it will knock those nasty bugs out with a Lucy punch!
