Sometimes I run across scripture while studying that I think of as nuggets, rare finds that we normally don't see unless we're digging, so to speak. You just know, by the way your spirit and heart feel, that you've found something of importance.
I was studying last week and when I read this scripture in Numbers, I felt that beautiful feeling. I love it when that happens!
Numbers 11:8-9 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
Most people have a mistaken idea about the manna that fell from heaven. You see pictures of little round cakes of bread, but that's not what it was at all. It was round, like pearls or coriander seed and they had to gather it from the ground and then grind it and make it into cakes, which tasted like fresh oil(that's a nugget too.)
Dew from Heaven is representative of the SPIRIT of the LORD. The dew fell and covered the ground to protect the manna from anything that might have been on the ground. Over in Exodus 16:14, we also read where there was more dew that covered the manna after it fell. It's not worded like that, but you get that understanding from the verse. When that dew had been dried by the morning sun, then they were able to gather the day's manna.
Exodus 16:14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
Here's the important part, the nugget if you please. It's very important for the dew of Heaven to fall on your ground(your heart) before you gather your Daily Bread(The WORD).
This is also why we worship and pray before The WORD goes forth in a church service. It's to get the dew of Heaven on the ground before the manna is given, which also comes from Heaven. The Bread(The WORD) needs a clean place to fall upon, it's PURE and GOD will always make a clean place for it, if we will allow HIM to.
What exactly am I saying? If it's at all possible, it's imperative to pray and get the Dew of Heaven on your heart before reading The WORD. It will make a huge difference, I promise!
Blessings from Patti's Place to your place!
Patti, What a beautiful thought about the dew must come first before the manna... I liked how you related it to worship/word of God. I am a pastor and just happened upon your website... so glad I did. I had been praying for some inspiration this morning and found your beautiful thought... thanks!
